Focus on Summer Program 2010
Thank you for learning more about SA’s Summer Program 2010! This 5-week, intensive program will inspire & motivate students to become self-directed artists & thinkers. Each week in the Summer Program features a new theme, which guides its lessons, field trips, and activities.
Summer Arts Intensive fees include 4 field trips to cultural institutions throughout NYC. Field trips give students an exciting behind-the-scenes glimpse into careers in the creative economy. This year’s trips will include visiting the Smack Mellon Gallery, Art House Library, Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance, and more – check back soon to see updates!
And as always, the Summer Program includes lunch every day, workshops from guest artists, and access & guidance to all SA supplies, including computer lab and digital cameras.
Week 1: Photography (July 12 – July 15): Explore the ins & outs of digital photography through workshops in Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator, lesson from a guest artist and creative professional, field trip to the Smack Mellon Gallery, and a special photo challenge!
Week 2: Moving Images (July 19 – July 22): Take your images to the next level this week by exploring film & animation. Students will learn iMovie, Flash, AfterEffects, and more plus a field trip (to be announced) and workshop with creative professional in film.
Week 3: Graphic Design (July 26 – July 29): Using a real-world theatrical company as a client, students will compete in a graphic design challenge this week which takes them through the world of advertising, marketing, graphic design, and even sales!
Week 4: The Arts of Performance (August 2 – August 5): Expanding on the curriculum of our popular Spring Arts Intensive 2010, this week will challenge students to compelling works of performance art through workshops on costume design, set design, improvisation, storyboarding, and more! Features a field trip and workshop from an acting and theatre artist.
Week 5: Entrepreneurship (August 9 – August 12): What exactly is the difference between entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship? How do I write a budget? Can I start my own business? How can I make money and make art at the same time? What do I want to do when I grow up? Explore all these questions and more during Entrepreneurship week, where students learn the business skills that make the world (and the arts) go round. Features a visit to an exciting new Brooklyn art gallery and center as well as workshop with an NYC expert in finance and entrepreneurship.
